Goalkeeping coach Fred Barber is back on the coaching staff !!!
Fred began his career with Darlington making his debut for the Quakers back in the 1982/83 season before moving to Everton as cover for former Shaker Neville Southall. His time at Goodison Park lasted just six months though before he moved to Walsall in October 1986.
Fred was a hugely popular player at Walsall and played a crucial role in their playoff final victory in the 87/88 season with Fred saving two penalties in the shoot-out for promotion. Eventually losing his place at Walsall he made loan moves to Peterborough United, Chester City and Blackpool over the next two years before he joined the Posh permanently in 1991. Further loan moves followed at Luton, Chesterfield and Colchester before he joined Luton on 1994. He later moved to Birmingham but fell victim to an injury after just two games, an injury that was to prevent any further progress as a player.
Fred joined Bolton in 1996 as keeper Coach and was to remain at the Reebok until 2012 after almost 16 years’ service.
Now back at Gigg Lane, Fred is straight back in action taking charge of Trevor Carson as well as a trialist keeper
Welcome back FRED !!!!
