Who is this programme for?
This programme is specifically designed for young potential footballers who have been released from their Professional Football Club. By training with our Academy staff on a daily basis and taking part in weekly matches/sessions versus our Youth Team Scholars you will have new and genuine opportunities to impress.
However as a school leaver it is vital that at the same time candidates futures are safeguarded from an academic point of view. By combining football opportunities with academic achievement, as well as FA Coaching qualifications and links to employers the long term futures of participants are at the forefront of our thinking. Be it as a professional footballer, University Student or an employee within the Sports industry.
What will I study?
The title of the main qualification is ‘BTEC Level 3 Sports Performance & Excellence’. This qualification is the equivalent to 3 A Levels and would give any successful candidates the entry requirements for University should they wish to pursue that as a progression.
In addition and perhaps differently to other providers, candidates will achieve the FA Level 1 coaching certificate within the course which is an additional NGB qualification. This will allow candidates to access potential progressions such as coaching in the USA with one of our partners.
Although football is a big part of the experience, the BTEC is in Sport and therefore not football specific. This means you will be more employable within different sporting environments.
What are the entry requirements?
Candidates will need 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above in order to access the Level 3 course. In addition candidates must have been recently released from a PROFESSIONAL football clubs Academy system.
How is the course structured?
This programme is split between squad coaching and academic activity. Three mornings each week are spent in the Education Suite within the stadium, followed by three afternoons spent training with academy coaches and our Head of Sports Science. One of these afternoons each week will be spent directly with the Youth Team Scholars competing in training matches or sessions. The fourth day will see candidates compete in an 11 a-side College League format. Throughout the course your uniform will be the clubs training kit and tracksuits, and club strip on match days.
How long is the programme?
Level 3 is a full time 2 year College course.
Do I need to be really good at Football?
YES. This programme is specifically designed for those recently released by PROFESSIONAL football clubs and therefore a good level of ability is required. Long term futures of the candidates, potentially outside of becoming a Professional footballer are safeguarded via academic and FA achievements. But opportunities to impress and re enter the professional game is a key element of this programme, therefore genuine ability is an entry requirement.
