Five minutes of madness saw Bury lose their slim lead to ten-man Colchester United.
The visitors were suddenly down to ten men after just four minutes of the game, after George Porter saw red for an off-the-ball incident with Mark Carrington.
Craig Fagan buried a low shot from close range on 26 minutes, but the visitors had a 2-1 lead by 31 minutes, with goals for Josh Thompson and Clinton Morrison.
Bury went on to pile on the pressure for the remainder of the game, with Craig Jones sending in cross after cross, but it wasn’t to be.
It was first blood to Bury as the visitors were down to ten men inside the first five minutes. A tackle on George Porter from Mark Carrington gave Colchester a free kick, but Porter appeared to kick out after the whistle, giving the referee little choice but to send him off.

Steven Schumacher teed up one of his famous free kicks on 7 minutes, shooting from the left of the box. Sam Walker blocked the ball in the Colchester net – fumbling it at first, before regaining control.
Andy Bishop made the most of a pass to the right wing on 10 minutes, before threading the ball through to Craig Jones. His shot was deflected out for corner, which Craig Fagan then headed wide of the target.
Fagan then beat the offside trap on 22 minutes before turning to shoot from close range, but he missed the target, sending the ball over the bar.
GOAL! Bury broke the deadlock after a period of relentless pressure on 26 minutes, after Fagan buried the ball low into the bottom corner.

GOAL! Colchester doubled their lead with a second goal in as many minutes, this time for Clinton Morrison. He skipped past his marker before curling the ball past an outstretched Trevor Carson.

Schumacher took the ball wide soon after the restart – shooting from close range, he looked nailed on to score, but somehow dragged his effort wide.
Nicky Ajose worked hard on the left hand side before making his way into the box on 48 minutes, but his drilled shot was blocked en route to goal by Bishop.
Ajose then scooped the ball into the box on 50 minutes, aiming for David Worrall at the far post. He got his laces behind the ball, but somehow sent his effort over the bar.
A Bury free kick on 56 minutes had Schumacher’s name all over it, but the Bury captain’s blasted effort stung the palms of Walker, who put the ball over the bar.

David Wright made a vital clearance for the visitors on 77 minutes, giving the Shakers a corner. The ball was curled into the box and met the head of Bishop, whose effort struck the bar.
Bury managed to hit the bar twice in as many moments on 81 minutes, with Ajose and Bishop both trying their luck with their heads.
Clarke-Harris tried his luck from distance on 85 minutes, stinging the hands of Walker and winning a corner for Bury.
