Late show brings three points at Gigg Lane
The Shakers pulled off a much-needed win with two goals in the final eight minutes of the game.
Captain Steven Schumacher saw his penalty saved on 20 minutes, but heads didn’t drop and the Shakers piled on the pressure throughout the game.
Craig Jones buried a loose ball on 82 minutes, sending the Gigg Lane crowd into raptures, but substitute Johnson Clarke-Harris rounded off an impressive evening in the final minute of normal time with a neat finish.
Bury were awarded a penalty after 20 minutes of play, after Gavin Mahon upended Steven Schumacher in the box. The Shakers captain stepped up to take the spot kick, but Steven Arnold dived the right way and blocked it, sending the ball out for a corner.
Schumacher was the first man to react when Bondz Ngala fumbled with the ball on the edge of the box on 30 minutes, but the Bury captain blasted the ball over the bar with only Arnold to beat.
A sloppy ball fell to the feet of Andy Bishop on 38 minutes, but he couldn’t finish from close range as Arnold had it covered. The ball then rolled into the path of Craig Jones who fired over with the whole net to aim at.
The visitors’ first real effort on goal arrived on 42 minutes, when David Gray fired over from a tight angle on the right of the box.

Bury made a spritely start to the second half, with Worrall chasing the ball down the left hand side, before sending in a low cross which just needed a final touch.

An excellent whipped cross from Jones on 57 minutes found the head of Bishop in front of goal, but his glancing effort sailed wide.

Lucas Atkins went dangerously close to taking the lead for Stevenage on 69 minutes, after shooting from the right of the box only to watch the ball bounce just wide of the far post.

Craig Fagan stayed onside on 73 minutes, sending in a quick cross from the right – Arnold read his play and met the ball at the near post.
