Bury's Nifty Fifties beat the Bedford Walking Football Club 11-10
Nifty Fifty, the walking football programme for men over the age of 50 is one of the innovative health programmes run by the Community Trust. The sessions run each Tuesday at PlayFootball.net under the watchful eye of coach and ex-player, Billy Legg.
Most people that attend the Nifty Fifty session, do so to try and stay fit and healthy and to spend an hour each week with old friends, and to possibly meet some new ones. However, when the Nifty Fifty participants were challenged to a game by members of a similar club in Bedford, the Bedford Walking Football Club, they couldn’t turn down the challenge.
The match which took place at PlayFootball.net, part of Bury College this weekend was a real end to end thriller, which Bury Nifty Fifty FC won by a narrow margin in the end 11-10.
Billy Legg, their coach and manager was delighted by the result.
“Whilst the aim of Nifty Fifty Football is not to play competitive football, once we were approached to play a match against Bedford we couldn’t turn it down as it ignited the competitive spirit in all of us. We were delighted with the win, and are now up for anyone else who would like to take us on and to stop our unbeaten run”.
Nifty Fifty Football is open to anyone over the age of 45, and takes place every Tuesday at PlayFootball.net between 7pm-8pm. Sessions cost £4 or £30 for a 10 week booking, and anyone that would like to attend can simply turn up on night..
