Successful first Shakers family fun day
Saturday’s game against Newport County saw the first of this season’s family fun days taking place on the car park at Gigg Lane prior to kick off.
At least 300 young people took part in a range of fun activities which included human table top football, face painting, speed Ball, a sweet stall and circus skills, which were demonstrated by the staff from the Community Trust.
The Family Fun Day was organised jointly by the club and the Community Trust. As part of the initiative around 200 tickets were given away to children attending the Trust’s after-schools’ programme.
The Family Fun Days are now set to become a monthly event with the next event taking place on the game on the 2nd November against Torquay United, and then against Northampton Town on the 14th December.
Both the Club Chairman, Stewart Day, and Chief Executive, Glenn Thomas, who were instrumental behind the idea and planning of the event attended the activities before kick-off and were really pleased by the response to the first family day.
Toni Connolly, the Community Trust’s Sports Development Officer who led on the event from the Community Trust said, “It was great to see so many so many children turn up and take part in the activities we put on. The kids really loved getting their faces painted, having a go at circus skills and the human table football. We were really encouraged by this first event and the planning has already started to make the next family fun day on the 2nd November, bigger and better’.
Finally everybody at the club would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped organise the event and to those who came down to the Kids Fun Day and made it such a big success.
