Shadow Squad get their first win of the season
The Community Trust’s Shadow squad recorded their first win of the season yesterday after a hard fought victory over Burton Albion FC.
The game, which was played at Heywood Sports Village because of a waterlogged pitch at the Lower Gigg Training Ground, finished 6-5 to Bury FC, despite the fact the team were trailing 1-0 in the first half. The Shakers managed to get back on level terms before going 2-1 ahead with a great strike from 25 yards from the ‘man of the match’, Alex Milovanovic.
There was a tight end to the match with Bury FC moving to a 5-2 lead in the second half, and then a 6-3 lead, with Burton Albion coming close in the end to drawing back level with, with the Shakers finally winning 6-5, with a hatrick from Alex Milovanovic. The other Bury FC goal scorers were Josh Ryan, Steven Jones and Rick Smith.
Despite drawing a few matches, this is the Shadow Squad’s first win of the season which sees them move up to fourth in the table.
The Shadow Squad programme is a new initiative run at Bury FC Community Trust this season which provides educational and footballing opportunities for talented young players who have been released from the Academy system or who narrowly missed out on securing a scholarship at a club. The team is currently coached by former player, Brian Taylor who was delighted with his team’s first victory, and commented,
“I believe that this win was well deserved by the players, and will hopefully give all the team the confidence and motivation they need for the remainder of their fixtures. With a run of form and results, there is no reason why this team can’t be challenging at the top of the table come the end of the season”.
