Development squad developing

19 September 2013

Wednesday Morning run out for the Development Squad

The Shakers development team made the short trip to face Huddersfield’s development team on Wednesday morning, and returned with another positive result.

A strong Huddersfield side started the game at Terriers training ground and the game started brightly with the home side testing keeper Brian Jensen early on with a long range effort.

Huddersfield took the lead in the 10th minute on the back of a Bury attack. Huddersfield broke quickly, which resulted in a Huddersfield striker finding the time and space in the box to fire a low ball straight into the corner of Jensen’s goal.

As the first half came to an end Bury had a chance to level the game. Striker Shaun Harrad latched onto a threaded pass from John Rooney, but his powerful low shot was well saved by the Terrier’s keeper.

Bury started the second half at a high tempo and soon equalised through Shaun Harrad. An excellent spell of high pressure from Bury’s front men saw the ball drop to Harrad 20 yards outside the box, expertly finding the top corner of the  with a powerful, curling strike.

Bury then took the lead soon after, with Marco Navas showing real quality with an inch perfect pass which once again Shaun Harrad controlled and fired home from 12 yards.

As the game progressed both teams had opportunities to score but it was Huddersfield who found an equaliser late in the second-half. Good play down the right wing saw a Huddersfield full back find one of his midfielders on the edge of the box. The midfielders shot took a strong deflection that left Bury’s goalkeeper Jensen with little chance of stopping the shot.

Development Team Coach Ben Futcher commented on the game by saying:-

“It was a good work out for the boys. I was a little bit disappointed with the first half as I don’t think we pressed and played at a high enough tempo, but second half was much better and when the lads played with the intensity and tempo that we want, we stopped them playing and created numerous chances for ourselves.  It was good to see Shaun score two goals and that will do him the world of good.
