Kevin Blackwell on the Shakers 4-1 win v Cheltenham Town
After a busy week, Kevin Blackwell talks about his teams fantastic result against Cheltenham, his delight in seeing the fans happy and his desire for the Gigg Lane to become a fortress.
'For a start the fans are loving the football that we are playing. Our performances are starting to become consistent. We know as a team that there are going to be some tough games, but we want to make Bury a fortress with teams coming here and leaving us with nothing.
I love attacking football. Our recent games will have given people an insight into how I want to play. In the first half against Cheltenham the attacking play ripped them apart. The players are now playing the way that I want them to play and I'm delighted that the fans are pleased with the way that we are playing.
In the second half of the game against Cheltenham, even though we had dropped off a little after a sloppy spell we were still the dominant side. Cheltenham are a good side, they reached the play-offs last season, they are very robust and very strong but we sent them back on their bus with a lot to think about.
It's good to play pretty football but I want us to play purposeful football, I think that is what we have done. We've created chances, defence's have had to work hard against us and keepers have had to make saves. I love what I am seeing from us at the moment.
With the squad we have at the moment there is now strong competition for a place within the starting eleven, that was something that we didn't have last season. I want all the players to realise that if they are not pulling their weight then they are not going to be selected in the team. We've got some exciting young players here this season. We are a strong unit but we are still not the finished article, but we will continue to work towards that.
It will be a busy coming week with Port Vale on Tuesday and the local derby on Saturday. I'm looking forward to every game this season, I'm excited. The players are now starting to believe just what we can achieve. I now have to continue to push the players to go out score more goals and to keep clean sheets. I want us to win in the right way. Winning the right way is something that you need to get into as a habit.
