Not a millions miles off

Chris Sedgwick looks at the Fleetwood Town result and the start to the season

Following the 2-1 defeat at Fleetwood on Saturday, we grabbed the chance for a first interview with Chris Sedgwick.  Despite playing and scoring in the JPT game at Port Vale, Chris gave us his view of the game from the bench and reflected on the start to the season.

‘It’s a tough place to come to, Fleetwood are doing really well but we got our noses in front and it would have been nice to hold on.  It’s disappointing to see them score two when they did.

It would be fair to say that we took the lead against the run of play, but it’s a tough place to come to. Fleetwood are doing really well and they do have a big budget, they’ve already spent a lot of money and you could see that on Saturday.

You could see the quality in their side but I thought we had weathered the storm very well.  Then we hit the bar with the chance from Anton that could have put us 2-0 up.

They scored at a good time for them and obviously their second goal was disappointing to see.  You won’t see many teams going to Fleetwood this season that will get the result they want.

It’s still early days, we are still bedding in as a team but we have to start picking up results.

Nobody would have picked this fixture list, we’ve had a tough start with the likes of Oxford away and coming to Fleetwood, they are tough games, but there are signs that things are starting to gel.  When it does click and things come right we will put a run together.  We may have played the top teams and I don’t think we are a million miles off.

It’s hard to put your finger on what will make it click into place, its time more than anything, its games and the lads playing together.  Its 25 new players and it’s all about timing, there is only so much work you can do on the training ground. Its games that we need, we have to pick results up as we are bedding in.

As for me, I want to get in the side and I want to play.  I’m waiting for my chance now and when that chance comes, it’s down to me to take it.  There are a lot of players here in the same position as me, all you can do is be patient and be ready when that chance comes.’
