Victory at Blackburn in Lancs Senior Cup Quarter FinalA strong Shakers reserve side were triumphant in the quarter Final of the Lancashire Senior cup with a 2-1 win at Brockhall this afternoon.
The Shakers took the lead in the second half when a Lewis Young corner was expertly headed home by veteran defender Richard Hinds. Blackburn got back into the game with 20 minutes left following a stunning strike from Marcus Olsson but the final goal of the afternoon came Bury’s way thanks to Topie Obadeyi, who put the ball into the back of the Blackburn goal in added time.
The hosts were the better side of the two for the opening spell with 7th minute attempt from King drifting wide of the target, closely followed four minutes later by a shot straight into the arms of keeper Reice Charles-Cook. Another attempt came on 16 minutes when Dean Rittenberg fired an effort over the bar having got past the Shakers defence.
Rovers should have taken the lead soon after when Andy Procter brought down striker Dean Rittenberg in the area, the same striker took the resulting penalty but Charles-Cook pulled out the stops to deny the home side with a clean save.
The first half ended strongly for Bury with Obadeyi showing quick feet and using his pace to charge through the Rovers defence, only for keeper Jake Jean to prevent a save with a block using his legs.
With ten minutes of the second half gone, Bury took the lead. A Lewis Young corner found an unmarked Richard Hinds who rose high to powerfully head home. Topie had another chance soon after to double the Shakers lead when a vicious shot on the half volley flashed inches wide of the target.
Blackburn made it all square on 71 minutes when a stunning strike from Swede Marcus Olsson flashed beyond Charles-Cook and into the back of the net. With many expecting a cross from the Swede, his shot on goal stunned all those present as it flew into the far corner of the goal.
Using the counter attack, the Shakers went looking for the winner in the dying minutes and Navid Nasseri struck a form shot over the bar, before the Shakers claimed the victory in added time.
Topie Obadeyi raced from the wing to the corner of the Rovers boxes and placed the ball beyond Jake Kean into the far corner to win the game. Despite the late goal, the hosts could have done better when Rittenberg was denied by a good stop from Charles Cook and the Shakers held out to seal the win.
Shakers will now play Burnley in the semi-final, though date and venue has yet to be confirmed.
