All this week the Community Trust have been holding art classes in Starkies for youngsters with learning disabilities. Abbie, Brandon, Ethan, Fran, Josh, Rehan, Thomas and Stacey, all between 5 and 11 years of age, have been taking part in the classes which have been led by Pippin's Designs LTD.
The team from Pippin's Designs LTD produced a series of canvases in a Pop Art style, of images chosen by the Club that have been taken throughout the seasons. The children were then tasked to complete the 20 canvases by applying 4 different colours of paint to the areas that needed to be painted.
The classes have been taking place as a form of therapy for the youngsters as it has been proven that art activities can help children with learning disabilities start to overcome the daily challenges that they face in many different ways. Arts and crafts can give students with disabilities a chance to express themselves and gain confidence. The project itself has been fully inclusive, with children of any age an ability being able to join in with the class.
Ryan Lowe, Danny Nardiello, Tom Soares, Danny Mayor, Nicky Adams and captain Jim McNulty were just some of the players that popped in to the classes to say hello and to see themselves depicted as a pieces of artwork. Each player was thrilled with the outcome and enquired into whether they could purchase their canvas, but unfortunately for them each canvas that was produced throughout the week will be auctioned to raise money for charity.
