Shakers claim three points from the Silkmen

Bury Travelled to Macclesfield town in confident mood and started the game without top goal scorer Anthony Dudley who had been called into the 1st team squad after a string of impressive performances.

The Shakers started the game brightly and soon dictated the play with a neat passing style which did prove difficult on a lively pitch, Under 16 Left back Ben Gibson soon got on the attack and forced a corner in the opening minute but Scott Burgess’ corner was scrambled away by the home defence.

Bury continued to probe and Regan Walker tested the home keeper on 14 minutes when his low shot from the edge of the box forced a save.  The young Shakers Bury just lacked the necessary cutting edge to finish off their dominant possession.

Regan walker’s free kick from the edge of the box tested the home keeper on 36 minutes, and just six minutes later, Bury finally broke the deadlock when great approach work from Scott Burgess lead to him sliding in Regan Walker inside the box.  The Shakers striker produced a low angled shot which the keeper could only parry out to fellow striker Connor Willis, who tapped in from close range. Bury went into the half time break deservedly 1-0 up.

The second half was a greater test for Bury as Macclesfield upped their game and started to control possession and soon started to ask questions of the Bury defence.

Keeper Jonathan Barber had not had a shot to save in the game as the away defence stood firm as Bury continued to struggle to dominate possession and were reduced to the odd counter attack.

Jake Cliffe produced a good display in midfield and it was through his headed clearance from a Macclesfield corner that Bury produced their best chance of the second half when a counter attack lead to Regan Walker being sent through on the left, from 10 yards out he looked destined to score only to check back on his right foot and lose his footing.

Bury continued to battle hard and produced a decent defensive display to keep hold of their clean sheet and run out winners.
