Football & Education Programme Gets International Recognition

The Bury FC College programme in association with VLUK which combines football opportunities with a full time College education already has a fast growing reputation, with player numbers increasing by 300% in the last three years. Now that reputation has gone international with Bury FC welcoming Scott Newland all the way from Perth Australia!

Scott visited Bury FC in October, spending a week with the coaching and educational staff. Reports from both parties came back strong with Scott’s attitude to learning both on and off the field resulting in the department inviting Scott back full time.

Scott has decided to take up the offer and will fly in to Bury after Christmas to join up with his new class and teammates. An attacking player, comfortable on either the wing or central, Scott is due to graduate from Perth WA High School where he has also represented Perth Glory and Balcatta FC finishing top of the league goal scoring charts in 2013.

On this programme Scott will study full time for the BTEC Level 3 in Sports Performance and Excellence for two years, as well as represent the Bury FC Shadow Squad Under 18’s playing against other Professional Clubs. Whilst with us in October Scott scored in a close fought 2-1 defeat to Chelsea and we hope he can bring his goal scoring touch back with him in January.

Any potential players and students looking to join the programme for September 2015 are invited to the next open evening at the JD Stadium on Tuesday 25th November and can drop in any time between 5pm and 7pm. Alternatively you can email mike.waterworth@buryfc.co.uk with any questions.
