Bury 10 - Pennington 0

20 October 2014

Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup 2nd round...

Bury Girls & Ladies FC (North West Women’s Regional League Division 1 North)  vs. Pennington Ladies FC (Lancashire FA County League Division 1)

Bury Girls & Ladies FC  10 - Pennington Ladies FC  0 (Ellen Thornton(3), Lucy Golding(3), Jordon Bailey (Captain) (2), Dee Tomkins(1), Caideigh Halliwell(1)

1st goal as a result of Jordon being brought down in the area 5 mins in to the game.  Resulting penalty taken by Lucy.

2nd goal followed from a corner taken by Lucy which Ellen got on the end of and promptly headed home.

3rd goal – Having got free several times on the right wing Caideigh ran the ball in to the area and as the keeper went to ground Caideigh slotted the ball home.

4th goal – Lucy was fouled, the resulting free kick was taken by Sophie, which she sent in to the box.  Ellen in the right place made a neat turn and with her left foot put the ball in the back of the net.

Half time

5th goal – Caideigh through on goal again from the right, clearly had her shirt pulled to prevent the run in, which resulted in a Pennington yellow card.  Lucy took the free kick into a crowded area.  Dee found a bit of space to shoot and in went the 5th goal.

6th goal – followed some great play in the middle of the field. A through ball to Lucy who beat the keeper on a 1:1.

7th goal – Pennington attempted to clear the ball following a Bury attack, it fell to Ellen around 35yds out which she took first time with power and hit the back of the net.

8th goal – Again Caideigh was fouled as her speed on the right hand side was a constant frustration to Pennington.  The resulting free kick was taken by Lucy, it was bending awkwardly towards the goal, and a touch by a Pennington player caused it to be put in to the back of the net.  Technically an own goal, but I’m sure Lucy will claim it.

9th goal – Caideigh again in good position having beat her marker run the ball in to the area and a quick pass on to Jordon approaching from the left saw Jordon with space to slot the ball home.

10th goal – Just before the final whistle. Jordon’s quick feet found herself some space on the edge of the area and a lovely shot in to the top left saw Bury reach double figures.

Girl of the match: Ellen Thornton

Bury had most of the possession and although Pennington put up a fight, they never really showed signs of threatening the Bury goal.

Bury will now meet Blackburn Rovers Ladies (FA Women’s Premier League, North Division) away on the 16th November in the quarter final. A team 3 divisions higher than Bury.
