Bury Girls & Ladies Football Club

15 September 2014

Bury Girls & Ladies Football Club was founded in 1996 and was set up originally to accommodate a group of girls who wanted to form a football team. Over the years more girls joined and 4/5 teams were established at different age groups playing in the Lancashire FA County League.

The Club established its home ground at Phillips High School, Whitefield where it has been for the last 15 years.

In 2008, a new development plan was put in place to ensure the Club was able to grow in order to offer more girls the opportunity to play football.  This along with a new enthusiastic Chairwoman and a supportive Committee saw the beginning of a new era.

Since then the Club has continued to grow and now boasts 12 teams which provide girls from age 6 upwards with an opportunity to play football.  We have seen numerous league and tournament wins at junior and youth level which is down to our qualified volunteer coaches and the time they put in to training and development.

Following all this success it was decided at the end of the 2012-2013 season we needed to develop the Ladies set up so our home grown talent could progress.  This in turn would make the adult side more competitive and able to progress through the women’s pyramid where previously they had not.  We didn’t want to stand still.

And so, in May 2013 trials were held to create a new young, dynamic team that could take the adult set up forward over the coming years.  Over 40 ladies turned up to trial and a new squad was selected.  In the 2013-2014 season the new team held their position in the North West Women’s Regional League and put a halt to a previous downward trend.

During the course of the season the management and coaching structure of the Ladies team was altered to further enhance its development.

June 2014 took the Ladies Team one step further with the exciting news that they would now be playing at the JD Stadium as part of our partnership with Bury FC, this enticed further new experienced players to the squad.  We have also added some of our own talent that have come through the junior and youth sections of the Club.  Together these things are now enabling us to continue to go from strength to strength.

Now, we are about to embark on our most exciting adventure yet, as the Ladies team strives to move up the divisions and whilst we know this won’t happen overnight we have everything in place to build on to ensure the future remains bright.
