Match Preview: Fleetwood Town (H)

17 August 2015

The Shakers take on Fleetwood Town tomorrow evening at Gigg Lane in Sky Bet League One.

The Shakers will face fellow Lancashire side Fleetwood Town on Tuesday at 7.45pm, for only the third time in a competitive fixture.

This incarnation of the Club are relatively young, having only been established in 1997, where they started in the tenth tier of English football.

The Cod Army have seen a sudden rise since then and this season will be their second season in Sky Bet League One, after finishing in their highest ever position in the English football structure last campaign, finishing tenth in League One.

Graham Alexander has done wonders at the club, getting the underdogs promoted in the 2013-14 campaign, before keeping them in the league last season.

They will now be expected to build on that this season; however they have struggled to get off to a good start this season so far with only one point on the board after two matches.

Alexander will be hoping his team can get their first win of the season at Gigg Lane tomorrow night against the Shakers.

The Shakers although new into the league will not be pushovers though, and have shown that fact with an undefeated start to their Sky Bet League One campaign against tough competition in Doncaster Rovers and Swindon Town, they also beat Wigan Athletic in the Capital One Cup.

Last time out they put in a brilliant show of football, before giving up a 2-0 lead to last year’s play-off finalists Swindon Town after niggling injuries to Kelvin Etuhu and Danny Mayor caused Flitcroft to change tactics.

Both players though are expected to be able to take part against Fleetwood, although it will still be too soon for Ryan Lowe and Keil O’Brien.

Shakers Manager David Flitcroft will be hoping his team will carry on the fantastic form they have shown so far this season, which has allowed them to more than compete against established League One sides.

Live Commentary of the match will be available on Shakers PlayerHD, with at least 10 minutes of highlights available at midnight on Wednesday.
