Match Preview: Oldham Athletic (H)

28 August 2015

The Shakers take on local rivals Oldham Athletic at Gigg Lane on Saturday, 29th August, 3pm kick off.

Bury will be searching for their first win of the season in the Sky Bet League One against rivals Oldham on Saturday.

The Shakers have impressed in front of goal scoring an impressive 9 goals in 4 games, but the side have also leaked too many goals. Manager David Flitcroft has pinpointed this as an aspect of the team’s game they need to improve on and fast.

He explained: “The defence is our achilles heel, but we were fantastic there last season. I don’t think it’s to do with stepping up a level, but I think individually and collectively we need to tighten up and improve.”

Oldham have started the season unbeaten so far in the League with three draws and one win in four games. The Latics will be looking to kick themselves out of the trend of getting draws, and get three points when they make the short 13 mile trip to Gigg Lane.

There will be an electric atmosphere at Gigg with Oldham having sold over 1,600 tickets so far, and more are expected to be sold ahead of the game. Bury are also expected to have a large turn out to see the team against their local rivals.

Tuesday night’s debutant Matty Foulds will have been training hard since the Capital One Cup clash against Leicester City to force his way into David Flitcroft’s thoughts on a more regular basis and the 17-year old is expected to make the bench with a substitute appearance a possibility.

Another player who will want to get back into the Managers thoughts is winger Craig Jones who came back from an injury to make his first appearance of the 2015/16 season from the bench on Tuesday.

Leon Clarke and Kelvin Etuhu will be looking to get back in the team having worked through the niggles that kept them out of the last two matches against Crewe Alexandra and Leicester City.

Oldham have their own injury worries with their Manager Darren Kelly confirming that the Latics’ captain Liam Kelly will be out for the game as he is to undergo knee surgery. Striker Jake Cassidy and Defender Brian Wilson will also sit out with injuries.

Ticket prices for the match are set as Category A.
