Youth Preview: Bury U18's v Accrington Stanley U18's

14 August 2015

Bury’s Under-18s start their season off with an away game at the Wham Stadium to take on Accrington Stanley.

The Youth Team will start off the defence of their League title away at Accrington Stanley tomorrow morning (15thAugust), kick-off 11pm.

The Young Shakers will be looking to carry on their brilliant pre-season which has seen them take on a number of high profile sides, including Manchester United and Everton. They have also played a number of semi-pro sides before heading to Holland on an LFE ran tour.

Out in Holland they played top Academy sides in Willem II, VFL Bochum and Vitesse Arnhem. Although first and foremost a tour to let the youngsters see a different footballing culture - which, Youth Team Manager Ryan Kidd said is “a lot more chilled out” – it was a good way for the team to bond.

The side have recruited 5 First Year Scholars in; Liam Williams, Will Osgathorpe, Jesse Arizie, Ciaron Best and Nathan Turner. Kidd believes that the tour of Holland helped those new recruits integrate into the title winning side.

Talking ahead of the match tomorrow morning, Ryan Kidd said: “The lads loved it out there, and they bonded a lot better while out there. I’ve seen that since we’ve got back.”

Since being back they have focused on their first game in the North West Youth Alliance as they visit the Wham Stadium to face Accrington Stanley’s Youth Team.

Ryan Kidd is hoping that playing in Stanley’s stadium will help them play the best football they can, on a good surface.

He explained: “We are playing at their stadium, which is a benefit because we know we’ll get a decent pitch, which should suit our style of play.

“We seem like we are in good form, the lads have had some real tough encounters during pre-season especially due to playing a lot of senior teams in the build-up, which I planned on purpose to push them.

“It always takes a game or two to get a bearing on the League, but I’m sure we will put on a good show. Everyone is fit and raring to go”
