Bury under 18’s manager Ryan Kidd was left disappointed, but proud of a courageous fight back from his young Shakers side as they were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup by a very strong Fulham team.
The youth team who won their league last year and are currently second in the North West Youth Alliance, were up against a Fulham side which contained a wide range of talent including former Bury Youth player Stevie Humphrys.
After a disappointing first half and with the hosts leading 3-0 Bury started a fightback, but it was too little too late for Kidd’s side that ended up losing the game 4-2 with Bury also having a goal softly disallowed for a foul on the keeper.
Speaking to Shakers PlayerHD after the game Ryan Kidd said: “You can see the quality they’ve got technicality wise with pace & power they were slightly more dominant than we were.
“When we were 3-0 down at half time I thought coming out for the second half it could’ve been a lot more if we carried on in the way that we were playing, but I know what we’ve got at this football club; we’ve got lads that care and who take pride in the shirt and the second half was absolutely fantastic, I’m so proud of our second half performance.”
Young striker George Miller scored two goals in the game down in the capital and Ryan Kidd highlighted his terrific work rate and performance in the game.
“I thought he was excellent tonight he did a lot of running, but Fulham isolated him well.
“I thought he ran his socks off tonight, he’s a goal threat and you’ll always know its George when you see him as he never stops running and gets in behind the defence and with 2 goals I thought he was excellent tonight.”
Kidd was also keen to praise the whole of his Bury youth sides character after a respectable result against the Cottagers.
“I thought we might’ve deserved more and we pushed on more and more at the end, but the commitment showed by the players was brilliant.
“Any other team would’ve folded tonight, but we’ve got more character than that in our squad. We’ve got guts, we’ve got character, we’ve got determination and we work hard and I think our work rate stepped up second half.”
