Although there is still a few months left of the current season, the youth department have already started their search for new players to join Ryan Kidd’s U18s side for the next campaign.
This is especially important with a number of his key players for this season joining up with the first team from next season.
With this in mind Youth Development Coach, Paul Cunliffe, has been looking at a large number of players over recent weeks and months, to find a number of high quality youngsters to bring into the squad for next season.
The department use their contacts at other clubs to see who is being released at the end of the season, who may be good enough to join the successful group of players already at the club.
Speaking earlier today, Paul said: “We’re just trying to get in as many players who are being released from the higher end clubs, so we have a large group to choose the very best from.
“We’ve got a few specific positions we’re looking at. Firstly we want two strikers, we’re looking at centre halves and possible wider players as well.
“We’ve got a lot of midfield players at the minute so we’re not really looking for players in those positions, that being said if someone comes in and they stand out, then we are going to give them that chance.
“We just have to look at as many players as we can, see if they’re good enough and whether they fit what we are looking for.”
Fans will have to wait until the summer to see the fruits of Paul's labour when next seasons youth team will be announced, but with the current squad chasing title glory there will be high expectations for the new youngsters coming in.
