Ian Towers

27 January 2015

It is with sadness that we report the death of former Shaker Ian Towers, aged 74

Ian joined the Shakers in 1968 after leaving Oldham Athletic and went onto make 52 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.  Ian had also played for Burnley before joining the Latics and was the Clarets first ever substitute in 1965.

After leaving the Shakers in 1970, Ian and family moved to Cape Town in South Africa where he continued his career before retiring.  Ian moved into coaching and later scouting and was highly influential on the development of Youth Players at Seven Stars and Ajax Cape Town.

Ian sadly passed away over the weekend in South Africa aged 74 and leaves wife Pat and two sons and daughters.

All at the JD Stadium pass out condolences to Pat and the family of Ian Towers

Once a Shaker – Always a Shaker – Rest in peace Ian
