New signing Jacob Mellis believes that the personnel at Gigg Lane will be able to get the best out of him.
The latest addition to the Shakers squad, Jacob Mellis, is no stranger to the Shakers Manager, David Flitcroft as well as a number of players at Gigg Lane having previously played with them at Barnsley Football Club.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder enjoyed his most consistent spell during his time at Oakwell, making 88 appearances and scoring 11 goals during his two and a half year spell in Yorkshire.
Most of that spell was while working with the gaffer, who Jacob believes can get the best out of him again this time with a Bury shirt on.
Speaking to Shakers PlayerHD yesterday afternoon, in his first interview as a Shaker, Jacob said: “I know how he works and he knows what I’m good at and what I need to improve on.
“We had a good relationship at Barnsley and he got the best out of me at the back end of the first season I was there.
“I created a lot of goals during that time and I scored a few as well, so it was good and when he left Barnsley he told me not to waste my talent. I have come here to prove the Gaffer right by playing and doing well.”
Jacob has stated that one of the reasons he has chosen to sign for Bury is the familiarity he has with a number of people already at the club.
After training with the squad during the past week, Jacob believes that he has already settled into the squad due to their welcoming nature.
He explained: “It was definitely a factor, there’s quite a few familiar faces around which is good, but even the other boys have made me feel welcome, and they are a good bunch of lads.”
