Report: U18s v Carlisle United

17 March 2015

Bury make it 10 games unbeaten in all competitions, with a 1-1 draw against Carlisle United on Saturday.

Ex-Bury academy coaches Alan Moore and Vince Overson’s Carlisle United put a dent on Bury youth team’s title hopes, managing a 1-1 draw against the in-form Shakers.

Ryan Kidd’s side started strongly passing the ball around well and getting in good wide positions, but never looked to have a cutting edge in front of goal.

However, neither did Carlisle meaning that the game saw a lot of possession for Bury but with few shots on target.

The teams went in at half-time with neither team really looking like scoring, but with Bury looking the stronger side.

The second half started the same as the first ended, with Bury dominating but with few chances to show for it.

The game sparked to life on 62 minutes when pushing in the Bury box from a Carlisle United corner, lead to a questionable penalty call for the Cumbrians.

The penalty taker went straight down the middle with Jack Ruddy getting a foot on the ball, but not enough to keep it out of the net, giving Carlisle a 1-0 lead.

Carlisle went close again a couple of minutes later with the impressive Matty Foulds, getting the ball off the line after a counter attack by the Cumbrian side.

The Shakers were however not going to lie down and were dominant for the next 10 minutes with a number of chances.

Sam Gibson had a good chance for the side on 65 minutes with a brilliant run down the left allowing him to cut inside and pass into the middle of the box for Anthony Dudley.

Bury got their just deserts for the pressure they put on Carlisle on 67 minutes with a Khalid Mohamed equaliser. The goal was sloppy, but was put together with some good build up play.

The goal came at a good time with 15 minutes left in the match for Bury to take the lead, and they pushed and pushed with a number of chances, but Carlisle stayed strong to deny them.

The game ended 1-1 with Bury keeping up their great run of games undefeated, now 10 in all competitions.

Next up for the young Shakers will be Walsall away from home this Saturday, 21st March, 11am KO.
