The Neville Neville Stand

Bury legend Neville Neville honoured with Stand naming at Gigg Lane

Bury Football Club has announced today that the Main Stand at Gigg Lane is to be re-named “The Neville Neville Stand” as a lasting tribute to the man who did so much to ensure the Club’s survival in recent years.
In a sold-out lunch at Hotel Football today, arranged in honour of the former Director and Club stalwart, Bury Chairman  Stewart Day revealed the Club’s plans to re-name the Stand, to heartfelt applause:
“If it wasn’t for Nev, quite simply Bury FC wouldn’t be here today and there could be no more fitting tribute than to have the Neville Neville Stand as a permanent reminder of the enormous contribution he made to this Club ” said the Shakers’ Chairman. “This honour is, quite frankly, nothing more than Nev deserves - , his legacy lives on every time we  play a game, and the Neville Neville Stand will also ensure that his name will forever remain at the heart of the club he fought successfully to save” said Stewart.
Neville’s widow, Jill, was guest of honour along with daughter Tracey and son Gary at the lunch, with Phil being told the news of the Stand-naming separately as he is currently away performing his assistant manager duties at Valencia.
Neville looked after the commercial affairs at Gigg Lane for many years and so it is perhaps no surprise that the honorary part of the day was supplemented by a commercial theme! Stewart Day explained:

"Whilst the focus is very much about honouring a great Club servant, I am particularly pleased that the Stand will allow associate sponsors to affiliate their names with Neville’s, on the Stand. It is exactly what he would have wanted – a fitting memorial but also a way of raising vital funds for the Club he loved.”
Enthusiastic attendees at the Hotel football lunch immediately put their names forward, however the Club says there may be an opportunity for one more associate sponsor and Stewart Day would be delighted to hear from anyone interested by contacting him at the Club on 0871 221 1885.
