Youth Team full back Sam Gibson is excited about his sides FA Youth Cup tie against Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park.
The young Shakers take on Scunthorpe United’s under-18s tonight at Glanford Park in the Second Round of the FA Youth Cup, 7pm kick-off.
Second year scholar Sam Gibson feels he knows what to expect from the fixture having played in the Shakers’ trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup last season.
Speaking ahead of the match, Sam Gibson said: “I’m feeling excited for it, I’ve had quite a few games in the FA Youth Cup. I’m feeling a bit nervous because I’m coming back from injury, but we are all feeling good about it.”
Both teams beat non-league outfits to progress into this round, Bury beat Vanarama National North side AFC Fylde 5-1 in a foggy affair at Kellarmergh Park, whereas Scunthorpe beat Vanarama National League side Wrexham.
Both teams will now face a tougher fixture this time around especially with an exciting fixture against Category One academy side Fulham away from home, the prize for tonight’s clash.
However, Gibson feels that to get a successful result out of any game you have to down play the occasion and treat it like any other game.
He explained: “We have to think confident, we are obviously a good team we are at the top of the League, we won the League last season, you’ve just got to think you are a good player.
“We need to forget the occasion, it’s just the white lines around it, everything else around the match doesn’t matter, we just have to focus on the pitch.”
The match takes place at Scunthorpe United’s first team ground Glanford Park on Tuesday 17th November (tonight), 7pm kick-off.
Ticket prices for the match are:
