Bury under-18s glided past Scunthorpe United in the second round of the FA Youth Cup at Glanford Park with a 4-1 win over the Lincolnshire side.
The young Shakers beat Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park last night in convincing fashion, to pave the way for a third round tie away at Fulham in the FA Youth Cup.
A George Miller hat-trick and a goal by Khalid Mohamed helped bury soar to a 4-0 lead in the first 53 minutes.
Scunthorpe looked to get themselves back in the game, but never really looked like threatening until they got what turned out to be a consolation goal on the 86thminute through captain Jack Dyche.
The Iron under-18s started the game as the better team with a number of early chances, with pacey forward Leslie Sackey especially impressing, however the Shakers soon found a footing in the game and never looked back.
George Miller opened the scoring on the 15th minute with a low shot under Ben Ledger, after a defence splitting pass by Nathan Turner.
The Shakers kept pushing and Khalid Mohamed soon made it two with a brilliant individual effort running through the Scunthorpe defence and placing the ball past Ledger into the net for Bury’s second.
Bury went in at half-time looking comfortable with a 2-0 lead, having looked the better side for most of the half.
It didn’t take long for George Miller to get his second goal of the game after he pounced on a mistake by Ben Ledger and placed the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
George Miller got his third a couple of minutes later after he was handed the ball on the left side of midfield and stormed into the box, smashing the ball into the net for his hat-trick.
The Iron got a consolation goal in the 86thminute with a goal by Scunthorpe captain Jack Dyche to make sure the game finished 4-1.
The Shakers will now face Fulham in the Third Round of the competition at an unconfirmed venue chosen by Fulham, to be played on the week commencing Monday 14thDecember.
