Prior to each Shakers away game, Supporter Liaison Officer Ben Miles obtains information from our host Club, in order to provide as much useful information in advance as possible.
Ben said, ‘We want our supporters to have an enjoyable experience and feel that by providing them with the details before-hand, this helps them with what to expect upon arrival and throughout their trip. The questions posed to Clubs are based on my own experience and suggestions made by supporters. If anybody has anything they would like to see added to the pre-match information, please contact me on the details below’.
Ahead of the trip to Bramall Lane, we put the following to a representative of Sheffield United:
Bury: Are there any known issues en route to the Stadium?SU: There are the usual issues of the 50mph zone just after joining from the M62 that runs a large slice of the way. (Edit – this applies to the M1 also). Snake Pass and Woodhead are both currently clear if travelling that way. All inner Sheffield routes are currently fine.
Bury: Is car parking available for Bury fans? If so, please provide details (where, how much etc).
SU: Street parking around the Stadium is generally for local permit holders and not recommended. There are, however, many match-day parking venues located around the footprint that is around £5 per vehicle. Sadly, footprint car parking is seasonal and there are none available via the Club on a game-to-game basis.
Bury: Is there Blue Badge parking available for Bury fans? If so please provide details, such as how to pre-book and how much. SU: We would advise all travelling to use the car parking detailed above. Any Blue Badge availability would be via Sheffield City Council.
Bury: Please give details of away fan friendly pre-match venues.
SU: South Yorkshire Police tend to steer visiting supporters to the City Centre which is about 10 minutes’ walk from the Stadium. The pubs directly next to the ground are for home fans only, however the Albion, which is located at the foot of London Road, does welcome visiting fans and has a good selection of real ales. The Royal Standard, which is located on St Mary’s Gate, also welcomes those visiting Bramall Lane. Although they’re on different sides of the footprint, both are approximately 5 minutes’ walk from the ground.
Bury: Where is the nearest cash machine to the Stadium?
SU: There is an ATM located in the BP petrol station which is located next to the ground on Bramall Lane itself. This is also where visiting fans are located and therefore handily placed should you need to withdraw cash.
Bury: What is the approximate distance from the train station to the Stadium?
SU: The ground is signposted when exiting Sheffield Midland Railway Station and is directly accessed via Shoreham Street. This can be found by walking directly up to Sheaf Street (in front of the station), turning left then first right, past BBC Radio Sheffield and across St Mary’s Gate. Turn right to the top of the dual carriageway to St Mary’s Church and then left into Bramall Lane itself – the visiting turnstiles are at that side of the ground. The duration of the walk is approximately 10 minutes.
Bury: What food and drink is available in the concourse at the Stadium?
SU: There are the usual selections of football fare on offer in the away end. I am unaware of any alcohol restrictions being imposed for the visit of those from Gigg Lane.
Bury: What is the postcode for SatNav users?SU: S2 4SU
Bury: Is there any additional information you think may be useful for our fans?SU: Bramall Lane is well signposted on approach and is a good family venue for away supporters to visit. The away ticket office is located at the access turnstiles. The ticket office, superstore, club museum, and main reception are located on the south side of the ground on Cherry Street in the Top Spring Stand. The Club has a hotel, The Copthorne, located in it’s footprint, that offers an excellent option for those wanting to stay over either the night before or after the game. Ground tours are run at 12:50pm on the day of the game – they start in the Club Museum and take a look behind the scenes pre-match at our historic ground. Tickets are booked via the Sheffield United ticket office and cost just £6 for adults and £4 for concessions. We hope that you have a safe journey to and from Sheffield and enjoy the game safely.
Kind Regards to the Shakers.
