Info for supporters heading down to Walsall for Saturday's game
Walsall v Bury
Saturday 27th August 2016 – 3:00pm
EFL Sky Bet League One
Preview: James Vaughan is set to make his debut for the Shakers, back in his native Midlands, after he left his home town club, Birmingham City, earlier in the week.
Will the arrival of Vaughan see a change in shape for the Shakers? It’s the big question many are asking ahead of the game and, in all truth, nobody will really know until around 2pm on Saturday when the official team sheets are released.
Last weekend’s performance and result against Oldham Athletic has been analysed, spoken about and worked on by the manager and his staff during a busy week’s training at Carrington.
It’s an old football cliché, but the manager is looking for a reaction from his players following the 1-0 home defeat and for those travelling down the M6, a reaction would be most welcome.
With the Shakers heading into a spell of three home games, it’s important that the lads put in the right shift and claim the points on offer at the Bank’s Stadium on Saturday.
Nobody was happy with last weekend’s performance, none more so than the players themselves. All those involved will be keen to put that game as nothing more than a distant memory.
The gaffer has a few injury problems that may not be resolved before Saturday’s trip to the Black Country with a small clutch of players, including Nathan Cameron and Andrew Tutte, still rated as doubtful and may not even travel on Saturday.
Games at Walsall, in recent history, have proved to be quite successful for the Shakers with a host of wins in recent years. Peter Sweeney’s exquisite volley in a 4-2 win stands out and, last season, an early strike from Craig Jones was enough to claim all three points. A similar outcome on Saturday would be most welcome – in all areas.
Referee: Saturday’s referee is Sebastien Stockbridge from the North East. Since he was appointed to the League List at the start of the 2013-14 season, Seb has taken charge of 85 games – showing 299 Yellow cards and 16 Red cards.
Seb has previously taken charge of two Bury games, one at Gigg Lane, a 2-0 win v Exeter City in April 2014 (two Yellow cards and one Red card) and last season’s game at Scunthorpe United where the Shakers fell to a 2-1 defeat (six Yellow Cards and one Red card).
Betting: Bury have not won since the opening day of the season and will bid to get back on track at Walsall, where they are 12/5 with Sky Bet for all three points.
The Shakers’ last away trip saw them record a 0-0 draw at Coventry and a repeat of that scoreline is 17/2 – the last two fixtures they have played in have yielded just a solitary goal and under 1.5 in total here is a 9/4 chance.
The hosts have lost on back-to-back occasions and are 23/20 with the draw on offer at 12/5.
Coverage: We’ll have full match commentary via Shakers Player HD with Maurice Dickson and Brian Rigby in the Press Box and the lads will be on air from around 2:45pm. We’ll also have full coverage of the game with updates via our official Twitter account (@buryfcofficial) and we’ll have team news from the game available via Social Media (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) at around 2:10pm.
Later, on Saturday evening, we’ll have our match report together with match action photos from our new club photographer Ross Cooke, video interviews with the manager and a key player from the game.
Sunday will bring goal highlights on our YouTube channel with extended highlights going live on Shakers Player HD at approximately 3pm. We’ll also have the key comments, in text format, from the manager as well as introducing a new feature to the site where all the match day content will be linked from one handy page.
Previous meetings: Saturday’s game will be the 52nd such meeting between the two clubs. Bury hold the lions share in terms of wins with 21 victories, whilst Walsall have won just 18 games – the remaining 12 games have finished all square. In terms of goals, Bury have scored 75 goals to Walsall’s 72 goals.
And finally… Please get behind the lads, make plenty of noise – BE LOUD, BE PROUD, BE BURY!
Enjoy the game!
