Brassy's Reality Check

18 February 2016

Chris Brass has given everyone involved with the club a reality check with the club’s current situation.

Head of Football Operations Chris Brass has discussed the clubs disappointing defeat to Coventry city last weekend and how the players took that defeat into Tuesday night’s game to get a positive result against a side with lots of history.

However, in terms of the size of the club and it’s history where we currently are is a great stepping stone to keep improving.

Speaking after Tuesday night, Chris Brass said: “After the weekend, that’s what we wanted, that’s what we asked for, that’s what the manager asked for and that’s what he got.

“Having blips is part and parcel of management, it’s why the manager was in there debriefing the boys long after the whistle.

“When I was a player it was tough times, Bury struggled to stay in the Football League, when we came back two years ago it was the same – we had to keep Bury in the League.

“Let’s take stock, we are 14th in Sky Bet League One with 40 points and have 16 games left to play. Saturday’s defeat to Coventry might have been a reality check, but so was tuesday beating a club with a history like Sheffield United.

“We don’t get carried away when we have a fantastic result like this, and it hurts our pride when we have a result like we did against Coventry, but it’s times like those where we all pull together.”

The Shakers have two home games in 4 days with Colchester United on Saturday and a re-scheduled game against Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Brass believes that the sides home form has been good this season and they need to keep that going during the next two games, especially as the players have now shown what they can do and have had a confidence boost.

He explained: “Our home form has been okay throughout the season, obviously we are trying to address our away form, but our home performances have been good.

“We need to look at a few areas, but certainly a bit of confidence does help and we’ve seen tonight just what the boys are capable of doing.

“After just getting promotion last season, it’s a big result beating Sheffield United – I’m a realist and I’ll always tell it how it is and this is exactly where we are at.

“We just have to make sure we maintain that now on a more consistent basis.”
