Match Preview: Wigan Athletic (A)

26 February 2016

The Shakers make the short 15 mile trip to the DW Stadium to take on in-form Wigan Athletic.

Bury travel to Wigan Athletic on Saturday, 27th February 2016, 3pm kick-off, looking to extend their unbeaten run of results to four games in Sky Bet League One.

The Shakers started February with two tough results, however they showed fantastic fight to turn their form around and bounce back with two clean sheets from three matches to start their climb up the League table.

David Flitcroft and his men will take pride in the fact that they have already played the Latics three times this season, knocked them out of both the League Cup and the FA Cup, as well as recording a hard fought draw against them in the League at Gigg Lane back in October.

However, they will come up against a very tough Wigan Athletic side who are currently on a magnificent run of eleven games unbeaten in Sky Bet League One and are sat second in the League table.

Latics manager Gary Caldwell has recruited well throughout the season with a number of players that according to Flitcroft have made Wigan “the best team in the League”.

They recently made the signing of winger Yanic Wildschut permanent for one million pounds after the Dutch midfielder had spent the first half of the season on loan at Wigan. They have also added midfielder Sam Morsy, full-back Reece Wabara and striker Ryan Colclough as well as a number of other players since the last time the two sides met in November.

David Flitcroft has been hit a blow with the news that both Captain Nathan Cameron and top-scorer Leon Clarke will be unavailable for Saturday’s game with Wigan, this adds  the list of absentees with Kelvin Etuhu and Rob Lainton also out.

Although he may have strikers Ryan Lowe and Danny Rose available if they can pass late fitness tests.
