He has stated that he used there support behind the goal to force the Latics’ defence into making mistakes with both the fans and the Shakers strike force not showing them any mercy.
The Gaffer also praised the mentality of his players to keep fighting for each other through the sides recent difficult run on the road.
Speaking after the win over Oldham Athletic on Saturday David Flitcroft said: “I’m delighted with the result and for the fans who haven’t had to travel too far, but have got a win on the road which is vitally important to what we are trying to do.
“I’m extremely proud of a fantastic battling performance, it was a performance full of grit and determination. They showed desire to want to win for each other.
“It’s been difficult on the road over the last month to six weeks, obviously we won the other night and that gave us a massive boost and a lift, but then to come here - and let’s remember it’s John Sheridan’s first home game, so it was always going to be a tough game.
“However, our fans diffused that, being behind the goal and the noise we walked out to it was a proper local derby and I wanted to really play them in that half of the pitch and upset there back four.
“They’ve conceded quite a lot of goals and I wanted to really get at them, and I think we did that during the first half. Leon (Clarke) and (Tom) Pope at times really dominated there two centre-halves, so I was chuffed with how we started the first half, second half for twenty minutes you have to have a battling character and resilience and we’ve shown tonnes of that.”
David Flitcroft has specified the passion of the Bury fans and how much they care about the club, and he believes that everyone associated with the club also share in the fans passion for the Shakers.
This has been proven to the Bury manager through the amount of hard work everyone at the club puts into their jobs to make sure everything runs smoothly, even during tough spells like his side have just come through.
Flitcroft explained: “Everyone cares, we have supporters that care, a chairman and board that care about the football club and the amount we’ve turned it around in two years theres a care for the football club again.
“People want to come into work everyday and want to do the work, we’ll have tough spells but that tests people characters, it tests people nerve and it tests whether people really do want to come on this journey.
“There is always going to be doubters who doubt what we do as a group, and I’ve said to the group that we need to become indestructible, become a group that can’t be penetrated, thick skin, rhino skin and you need that in football and they’ve shown plenty of that over the past three weeks when a lot of the doubters were really coming after us.”
