Cian Bolger arrives at Carrington for loan spell with the Shakers
24-year-old Ireland born central defender Cian Bolger has joined the club on loan until the end of the current season from fellow league one side Southend United.
Bolger, who has made 25 appearances for Southend this season, will take squad number 23 during his spell at Gigg Lane. His last League One appearance was ten days ago as he started for Southend in a 1-0 home defeat against Chesterfield.
A product of Leicester City’s academy, Cian has enjoyed loan moves to Bristol Rovers on three occasions over three seasons before joining Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee in January 2013. Further loan moves came to Colchester and Southend before he signed a permanent deal at Roots Hall in August last year.
Cian will go straight into the squad for Saturdays game with Shrewsbury Town
Speaking this afternoon, manager David Flitcroft said: “We enquired about Cian when Nathan Cameron was first injured, but he then got in the team at Southend and has played over the last ten days and we thought this one had gone by us.
We always kept one eye on him whilst we were checking other targets but after meeting Brian Horton earlier in the week and speaking to Phil Brown we have managed to get the deal done. Its been a long search for us to get that centre half in but we are delighted to have him on board with us. We’ve had a couple of good days with him and its good to be able to work with the back four this week as a unit.”
