Callum Styles unknowingly sets a new Football League Record
When young Callum Styles emerged from the bench during Sundays game with Southend United, his appearance had Football League Statisticians scrambling for one vital piece of information and our tweet regarding his date of birth late on Sunday set the wheels in motion.
Callum Styles is the first player to have been born in the new Millennium to play in the Football League.
At just sixteen years and 41 days old, Callum almost broke the record for the clubs youngest ever player – Jimmy Kerr, who made his debut at 16 years and 15 days.
Speaking after the game, manager David Flitcroft said: “Callum came off after the game and the first thing he said to me was ‘Wow, that was fast’, These kids do not realise when they come from the youth team and the pace that we play at.”
Callum is just another product rolling through the Shakers Youth System and was a key part towards the end of the season as the Young Shakers claimed runners up spot in the Youth Alliance league.
