Will Ferry wins Youth Team Player of the Month Award for March 2017.
This will probably be the first of many awards for Will Ferry, as when I spoke to Ryan Kidd earlier this week Will’s name was the first one off his lips, followed by “The Academy has high hopes, he’s one for the future”.
Will has been with the Bury FC Academy since the age of 7, and since being part of it, he’s done nothing but improve his skills, technicality and game understanding, along with committing nothing but hard work and dedication.
Will made his Bury FC Youth (Under 18’s) debut when playing in the Academy for the under 15’s. Now he is regularly with the Youth squad, making 9 starts this season. As well as being around the Youth, he also trains regularly with the First Team on Tuesday’s, and made his first bench appearance this February away at Charlton.
He has also made his first International debut on 17th January 2017, for the Republic of Ireland Under 18’s, playing a fantastic 45 minutes.
Will has also accepted and signed his two year scholarship which will start next season (2017/18). We’re looking forward to having Will with us, and we can’t wait to see where the next two seasons takes him.
Youth Team Manager
Will has been in tremendous form for the Youth Team over this month, scoring the Goal of the Month, along with having numerous assists to his name. Still a current Under 16, who is about face the pressure of sitting his GCSE examinations at school, it’s a pleasure to be reassured that this has not affected his performance.
He is now back to full match fitness after a lengthy lay off due to injury, and is performing to an incredibly high level. He has recently made his debut for the Republic of Ireland Under 18’s squad. Also this season, Will was selected for the First Team squad that travelled to Charlton, after an outstanding Reserve Team performance. He is now training with the First Team squad on Tuesdays on a day release morning off school.
Will is a special player and is up there with the best kids I've ever coached, his undoubted talent matched with an incredible work ethic, a hunger to improve and win games has earnt him the reward this month. Congratulations Will, well done.
I am really surprised to receive this award. I only do what I enjoy the most and that’s play football, and giving it my all. I am starting to find a better form in my play, and wish to thank all the coaching staff at Bury FC, in particular Ryan Kidd and Mark Litherland, has they have helped me progress as a player. I would also like to thank them for the opportunities they have given me to challenge myself in training and matches. I am looking forward to becoming a scholar next season and developing further.
