Chris joined the Shakers over the summer having been released from Wigan Athletics’ Academy system.
Whilst yet to make his first start in a Bury shirt, Chris will join the Sandgrounders in time for their game with York City at home on Saturday.
Chris will gain valuable experience with Southport and we will be carrying regular reports on his progress at Southport.
Speaking this afternoon, Lee Clark said: “We haven’t got a development team. Chris is too old for the Youth Team and he needs to be playing to help his development, and with Southport being part time, he will still come to us to train in the week, as well as a couple of nights a week with Southport.
He will be playing for them and playing men’s football, and that’s an important part of his development. It will help us and it will help him, very much in the way it is helping Scott Burgess at Macclesfield. We are getting some great reports back on Scott, he is getting great experience with them.
This will be the same for Chris, he will get his football education and we will be looking at a couple of other players joining clubs like this on loan. It’s trying to balance things so the player gets the education and we get the experienced player back.”
