Confirmed: Shakers snap up Striker Smith

25-year-old striker Michael Smith has joined the club from EFL Sky Bet League One rivals Portsmouth after leaving Fratton Park earlier today, and has signed a two-year deal with the club.

31 August 2017

Wallsend born Michael began his career with Darlington in 2010 with whom he made 37 appearances, scoring six goals before securing a move to Charlton Athletic on 2011.  He would spend three years at the Valley though failed to make an appearance for the Addicks, but was loaned out to Accrington Stanley, Newport County, Colchester United and AFC Wimbledon respectively.

He joined Swindon Town in 2014, where he would go onto make 65 appearances and scoring 21 goals during his time at the County Ground, whilst helping the Robins secure a play-off place in 2015. Further loan moves came when he joined Barnsley and Portsmouth.

Four goals from 16 games whilst at Fratton Park saw the move made permanent in 2016, though he would again find himself on the road, this time on loan at Northampton Town.

Michael joins the club with 223 appearances and 63 goals to his name.
