Norwegian Fans’ Love Affair with Bury on Valentine’s Day!
For Norwegians Martin and Dino, it all started in 2006, when they played as Bury on the popular video game, FIFA. After taking control of the players in the game, they were smitten.
‘Our interest about Bury started in 2006, when the video game FIFA was released’, the pair told us. ‘For us Bury was an underdog, and we started to follow Bury in League Two. Andy Bishop was the big star. We did some research around the club; players, home-grown, history. We were really fascinated about Bury that was one of the best teams in England for over a hundred years with two FA-Cup titles. We also talked about to visit Gigg Lane one time in the future’.
Martin and Dino also set-up and run the official Bury supporters club in Norway:
‘Last winter we got some ideas launching Bury FC Norway. One of my best friends is the leader of the Norwegian supporter club to Peterborough, and he gave us a lot of tips and advices. We started up a Twitter-page and we use Twitter as our main platform. Last fall of 2016 we got the status as the official supporters club of Bury FC in Norway, as we were accepted into the Supporter Union for British Football in Norway.’
The pair were given a tour of the ground on Tuesday by Supporter Services Manager, Ben Miles: ‘As soon as I found out about the effort that they’d gone to, not only in making the trip to come to a game, but also running the Official Supporters Club in Norway, showing them around was the least I could do. They were both extremely knowledgeable about the Club and they were very grateful for the superb reception they got from the Shakers fans when they conducted the half-time draw!’
Before they left the area, Martin and Dino were also shown around Carrington by director Ian Kendall, and they were also lucky enough to also meet the new Shakers gaffer Lee Clark.
