Callum Styles signs his first professional contract with the Shakers
Youngster Callum Styles has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Shakers.
Callum arrived at Gigg Lane in March 2016 after being released by Burnley and, shortly after, he was offered scholarship terms after a trial with the Shakers. His made quick progress in the Youth ranks, making his debut for the Youth team shortly after, but he also made his First team debut in the final game of last season when he came off the bench in the game with Southend United at Gigg Lane.
In making that appearance, Callum became the first player born in the new Millennium to appear in a Football League game.
His hard work, commitment and consistency with Ryan Kidd’s Youth team has paid off with further appearances with the First team this season, including his full Football League debut for the club in a 0-0 draw at Fleetwood Town on Boxing Day.
Youth team manager Ryan Kid said: “Callum came to us, at the tail end of last season, having been released, surprisingly, from Burnley FC. Mark Litherland had worked with Callum quite a few years ago, and told me, he is the best talent he has ever coached.
“We beat off several Championship clubs for his signature, and it wasn't long before we knew we had someone special in the building. Callum has progressed his all round game this season to new heights and his work rate is now matching his undoubted talent.”
Following Callum’s second half appearance at Chesterfield on Saturday, new manager Lee Clark spoke of his delight regarding the youngster.
“I saw a glimpse of young Callum on the training ground and thought we had something, but then I saw him when he came on to the pitch at Chesterfield, and wow – he was awesome. He is an unbelievable talent and a very special player. He was very impressive when he came on in the game, and he, along with George Miller, made a difference.”
