Striker James Vaughan has been named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for January.
January was a month to savour for the 28-year-old Vaughan with seven goals in five games. Dominant in the air and dynamic on the ground, he proved his finishing class with four goals in a 20-minute spell in the 5-1 triumph over Peterborough.
Bury manager Chris Brass said: “His award is fully deserved; his form has been fantastic.
“We always knew that he would score goals given the opportunity, and I am sure he will go on and score plenty more crucial goals before the end of the season.
“When somebody is in the form that he is in at the moment, its pleasing that he deservedly gets the award.
“There are some good players in this league and in my opinion, James is right up there amongst them and his goal tally last month is a fantastic return for any striker at any level.”
Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “Vaughan left Birmingham in the summer to find more minutes and more love at a club where he finally felt needed.
“Bury have provided this and given his chance to be the main man again, he has proven his goal scoring quality.”
Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “When James Vaughan is fit he will score goals at this level, as proved by his glut of seven in just three matches to cap off January.
“This translated to five points from a possible nine for a struggling Bury side who rely so heavily on the former Everton academy graduate.
“With the Shakers looking to be in real trouble at the start of the month after tough losses to promotion chasing Sheffield United and Scunthorpe, Vaughan’s goals have given Bury a chance of climbing out of trouble.
“If Vaughan can keep fit look for him to make all the difference to their campaign and make light work of his 7/2 odds to finish the season as top goalscorer in the division.”
