Surgery for Edwards

Defender Phil Edwards goes under the knife to repair a torn cartilage in his knee

21 July 2017

Manager Lee Clark has revealed that his side has suffered their first injury with Phil Edwards undergoing surgery to a torn Cartilage in his knee. The injury came on the training ground and the player will not be available for selection for three to four weeks.

Speaking to iFollow this afternoon, Lee Clark said:

“The disappointing thing about pre-season is that Phil Edwards has torn his cartilage, it was an impact injury and, unfortunately, he’s had to have a small operation to correct the problem. He will be out for three to four weeks. There was nobody near him at the time, he passed the ball and went down. It’s disappointing and frustrating for the lad.

“It’s a blow to lose Phil like this as he had settled in with the group really well and he was doing really well but, thankfully, we’ve had some good news from the surgeon. He got the surgery done quickly and it could have been a lot worse but he will only miss a couple of games.”
