On Friday 1st September, Bury FC - The Trust entered their walking football team into their first competitive matches in the Greater Manchester Walking Football League held at Heywood Sports Village. There was a great turnout from all teams involved giving an amazing atmosphere!
The team got off to a great start beating local rivals Bolton 2-1! With this new found confidence, they went on to draw the next game against Wakefield 0-0 and their final game against Nash Bees was won 2-0. These results mean they go into their new competitive season topping the table for their division.
Player Gary Lomax said, “We will get better and I'm confident good times are ahead.’’
Team Coach Donna Godwyn commented, “The enthusiasm and team spirit was great! It’s good to see them all enjoying football this much and getting stuck in. They are a great group and I'm hoping that even more from the training session will want to progress into competitive games and we can enter a second team!”
If anyone is interested in getting involved in walking football, which is a slowed down version of the game for those who are 50+, contact Donna Godwyn on 07710 098728 or firstname.lastname@example.org and come down to one of our sessions!
