Bury will head to the home of Lancashire F.A. in Leyland on Wednesday for the Final of the Lancashire Senior Cup.
The Shakers overcame Preston North End in the quarter-final at Carrington, with goals from Andrew Tutte and Chris Maguire.
Tutte fired home from 20-yards in just the tenth minute of the game, after a quick free-kick from Chris Maguire.
It was Maguire who doubled the Shakers’ advantage just before the hour mark. He latched onto the end of a long through ball, and one-on-one with Declan Rudd, produced a chip over the advancing ‘keeper.
Preston pulled a goal back with 2 minutes left of the contest, but it proved little more than a consolation as the Shakers advanced to the semi-finals.
Blackburn Rovers have lifted the Lancashire Senior Cup more times than any other side, having won it 18 times since its inception in 1879.
They fielded a strong side, including the likes of Craig Conway, Peter Whittingham, Amari’i Bell and Marcus Antonsson all starting the game.
Both sides created chances throughout in an entertaining game, but neither could find the target and the game went to a penalty shoot-out.
Bury were clinical in their finishing, burying 3 of the 4 kicks from the spot which proved enough to knock-out Rovers and progress to the Final of the competition.
The Shakers will be looking to win the competition for the 11th time, and for the 3rd time in just 5 years, after recently lifting the trophy in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons.
Fleetwood Town will be playing in their second successive Final, after narrowly losing on penalties against Liverpool in last season’s Final. The Cod Army are yet to win the title and will no doubt be looking to rectify this on Wednesday.
Kick off is at 19:30 at Lancashire FA, The County Ground, Thurston Rd, Leyland PR25 2LF. Admittance is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
