It is with deep regret and sadness that the club learnt late this afternoon about the passing of Ian Fitzsimmons.
Many supporters will have met, talked and laughed with Ian over the many number of years that he was involved with the Club, either as the Club’s very first PA Announcer and Disc Jockey, Club Commentator on videos of games or as the Steward and Manager of the Shakers’ Social Club on Gigg Lane.
Since leaving the Club, Ian went on to manage the Waggonmakers pub in Bury and remained a loyal supporter and fan. A regular in the 1885 Suite, Ian was at the last home game with Wigan Athletic.
Ian has sadly been ill for some time and succumbed to his illness earlier today. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are extended to his wife Barbara and his sons Chris, Mark and Andrew.
The Club will be holding a minute’s applause ahead of Tuesday evening’s EFL Sky Bet League One game with Rochdale in order for the many number of supporters who knew an infectious character in Ian Fitzsimmons to pay their respects.
Rest in peace Fitzy…
