Callum Styles has completed a move to Barnsley for a significant undisclosed fee – but he will rejoin the Shakers on loan until January 2019.
The club will also be rewarded for future successes in Callum's career.
The talented 18-year-old, who has been with the Shakers since March 2016, has penned a four-year contract with the Sky Bet League One outfit.
However, as part of the agreement, Callum will spend until January with Bury, where he will look to help Ryan Lowe's side build a solid platform for the season.
It was deemed by both clubs to be in Callum's best interest to return to the Shakers in the short-term; however, the Tykes see the midfielder as part of their long-term plans.
Today we spoke with Manager Ryan Lowe, who said: “I'm happy for Callum and his family that he's got a move to a good club like Barnsley, where we feel that the next stage of his progression and development will come. They're going to be good for him, but him staying with us and developing is going to be good for them, so we're happy that it's a mixture as we wanted to keep him.
“We'll get him at least until January, which could potentially be longer. Callum is quite happy with that as he feels that he still wants to play games and that he still has a lot to do for us because of where we are trying to get to.
“Callum was brought back into the First Team environment during my interim period last season; he was a breath of fresh air for us and was one of our star players. He's come back in pre-season fitter and stronger. It was only a matter of time until a football club at a higher level invested in Callum’s services.”
Chairman Stewart Day added: “We thank Barnsley Football Club for the way that they have handled the situation. They have been interested in Callum for some time now and have been considerate throughout the process. I especially thank Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye, for his professionalism on this deal and the way he has conducted business.
“Callum made his debut at the age of 16 under Lee Clark and has gone on to become a First Team regular aged just 18. When a club comes in and matches your valuation on a player, you have to do the right thing and try to do what is collectively best for the football club and the player. We feel that a move to Barnsley is in the long-term interest of the player and our football club. We agree with Barnsley that the shorter term, immediate development of the player is still best served at our football club.
“It is pleasing to see Callum Styles start to fulfil the potential we all feel he has, a player who we took from Burnley Football Club and developed within our Academy. Special thanks must go to Mark Litherland and Ryan Kidd for the work they have done with Callum and continue to do within our Academy.”
