Player's Playlist: Forest Green Rovers - Danny Mayor

20 August 2018

For those who didn't buy a programme on Saturday, here's Danny Mayor's Player's Playlist interview which he did for the programme, where he discusses the reason behind his ten song choices...

Danny, can you tell us a bit about your song choices?

I’d love to say I have a reason or a story behind picking the songs, but in truth, they are just some of my favourites.

There's a bit of an Indie/Rock feel to your chosen tracks, is that the genre you find yourself listening to most?

I have a wide range of music on my phone, but Indie/Rock is the genre I listen to most. My favourite band is Biffy Clyro, so I’d say their albums are what I listen to most.

Your walk-out song selection is The Arctic Monkeys Mardy Bum, what's the reason behind that?

I chose Mardy Bum to walk out to because of the intro; I like the drum and guitar beats.

What was the first CD/tape you ever bought?

I’m not 100% sure, but I think it was Wheatus.

Are you an album or a singles person?

I’d say I’m more into albums. I tend to like the whole album of a band.

What's the best gig you've been to, and why?

Biffy Clyro Ellipsis Tour, it started off with them doing Wolves of Winter, which starts off with a heavy guitar and drum solo; it was amazing. I dragged my now fiancée with me and she’s now into them as well, so it was a good night.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

It must sound like I’m trying to sell Biffy Clyro, but they brought out an MTV Unplugged album which is them performing acoustic versions of their songs, so I’ve been listening to that a lot. I’m also prone to a musical film, so I won’t lie, I’ve been belting out the Greatest Showman album too.

A band that you think the world should love as much as you do?

A band called the Bines. They are a new Indie/Rock band from Preston. I think if people listen to them they will love them as much as I do.

If you were in a band would you want to be the lead singer or play an instrument, and why?

I think I’d want to play an instrument, as band members who play instruments aren’t the focal point, which I like. They get to make music but stay in the background.

You've recently got engaged, which song do you want for your first dance?

I did. I think if I had my choice it would be Everlong (acoustic) by the Foo Fighters or Walking on a Dream by Empire of the Sun.

You're quite confident that your playlist is going to be the best of the season, whose will be the worst?

I did say I would pick the best ten songs this season and I stick by that. I think Dom Telford will have the worst taste in music; I have a bad feeling he’ll be into MC or something.
