3rd December for the Shakers begins in 1887 and a Lancashire Junior Cup 3rd Round tie with Heywood Central at Gigg Lane. Approximately 3,000 supporters were at the game to witness a 2-2 draw with Billy Mitchell and George Ross scoring the Bury goals.
Step forward to 1921 and a Football League Division Two game with Bristol City at Gigg Lane attracted an attendance of 10,000. The majority of the crowd left smiling after a 5-0 mauling for the Shakers, with the goals coming from Jimmy Trotter 2, John Aitken, Billy Peake and Billy Stage.
A 1949 trip to the Vetch saw Bury playing Swansea Town in Division Two, where a crowd of 20,000 supporters saw the Shakers claim both points with a 2-1 victory. The goals came from Tommy Daniel and Harold Bodle.
The 1960/61 season was arguably the Shakers best season as a Football League club. Bury only lost eight games all season as they secured the Division Three title. One of those eight defeats came on this day with an away trip to Barnsley. 6,774 fans were in attendance as a solitary goal from Allan Jackson (pictured below) was Bury's only reply in a 3-1 defeat.
Preston North End were the visitors in 1996 for a Division Two game. The local derby attracted a crowd of 5,447 supporters who watched as the Shakers ran out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Lenny Johnrose (pictured at the top of the page), David Johnson and Mark Carter.
The last recorded game on this day took place in 2013, when the Shakers faced Cambridge United in a 2-1 defeat in an FA Cup First Round replay at the Abbey Stadium. Shaun Harrad grabbed the Bury goal with 3,442 supporters watching on.
