Our Fans’ Friday tour continues, as we spoke with our friends at Bury FC Norway about supporting the Shakers……
Where do you live?
Have you always lived there? If not, what was the reason for moving?
I’m born and live in Tønsberg, Norway’s oldest city 100 kilometres south from Oslo. I have also lived in Trondheim for three years for my Sport Science Studies.
What made you support Bury?
My interest in Bury dates back to 2006, when the video game FIFA 07 was released and I, together with my friends, used to play with Bury. Bury was one of the poorest rated teams in the game at the time. For us, Bury was underdog, and we started to follow Bury in League Two gradually. We did some research around the club; players, home-grown, history etc. Andy Bishop was the big star! If I recall correctly, David Flitcroft and Chris Brass were also in that team. Furthermore, we were really fascinated about the history of the club, especially the fact that Bury was one of the best teams in England a hundred years ago with two FA-Cup titles and some amazing records. At this initial time we talked about visiting Gigg Lane one time in the future as well. Then, in February 2016, we founded the Bury FC official supporters club of Norway.
What was your first game watching Bury?
My first game was the home game against MK Dons last season with Dino Islamagic, an important contributor to the supporter club. The match ended 0-0, but it was an incredible experience to finally visit the stadium and the city.
When was your last time you watching Bury?
Last time I watched Bury at Gigg Lane was against Fleetwood in the end of last year when we lost 0-2. Two days later, me and Simen Huseby, my colleague in the supporter club, travelled to the match against Scunthorpe away. We lost that match too unfortunately, but we deserved at least one point from that match.
Favourite Bury player of all time?
My first idol was Andy Bishop who scored the goals when I discovered Bury, but I have to say Ryan Lowe. What a great player and personality!
How do you keep up to date with what’s going on?
I watch almost every match at iFollow, something I can recommend to anyone who follows the club from far away. I also follow Bury at other social media like Twitter, Facebook.
Thoughts on the season so far?
This season so far has been tough. A lot of weak performances and bad results has lead us to a tricky situation for the last part of the season. Hopefully we will be able to turn around a bad trend and avoid relegation. We'll see what Ryan Lowe gets out of the players the next matches.
