Bury U18 v Birmingham City U18 – Energy Check Stadium at Gigg Lane, Friday 16th February 2018 – 7pm KO. Tickets are £5 for adults, £2 for concessions – come and give the lads your support!
The Young Shakers will exit the tunnel at the Energy Check Stadium at Gigg Lane to the sound of a vociferous crowd, as they continue their fantastic run in the competition.
Their third-round victory at Cheltenham Town saw the current crop become the first Bury side to make it that far in the competition since 1966, and a crowd of 515 was present to see them despatch Category One side Aston Villa in the fourth round.
Birmingham City have so far beaten Bristol City and Sheffield United to set up the clash with the Shakers, who themselves have been victorious over Oldham Athletic, Wigan Athletic, Cheltenham Town and Aston Villa.
A quarter-final tie at Carrow Road against Norwich City awaits the winners, after they recovered from 2 goals down to win 4-3 in extra-time against Newcastle United.
The Blues won’t be taking the Shakers lightly, after their victory over Aston Villa in the previous round. The result will have been seen as a shock to everyone outside of Bury, with Villa being seen as clear favourites owing to their higher status ranking.
Shakers’ boss Ryan Kidd knows the strengths Birmingham possess: “Birmingham are a very good team. I like the way they play, they’re a very good possession based side, move the ball very sharply and try and play through the middle of the pitch as well. They’ve got some very good players so we’ve got to be on it but I’m really looking forward to it!”
