Middlesbrough shot-stopper Connor Ripley has signed a loan deal with the Shakers until the end of the current season.
Connor has represented England at both Under 19 and Under 20 level, including keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Uruguay on 28th May 2013.
The 24-year-old was promoted to Boro’s first team during the 2010/2011 season. In January 2011 he signed a pro contract with his hometown Club and made his debut as a first-half substitute against Reading on 5th March that same year.
Loan spells at home and abroad followed, as he joined first Bradford City, then Swedish outfit Ostersund FK.
Connor moved North of the border for the 2015/2016 season, playing 40 games for Motherwell, as the Steelmen finished 5th in the Scottish Premier League.
Ripley spent last season on loan at Oldham Athletic, equalling a Latics’ record of 18 clean sheets, collected 3 awards at their End of Season Awards evening and was named in the League One Team of the Year.
He had spent the first half of this season on loan with Championship side Burton Albion, and made 5 appearances for the Brewers in his time there, including a game against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. He was due to spend the rest of the season with Nigel Clough’s side but his loan spell was ended early and will join up with the Shakers until 31st May.
Manager Chris Lucketti was happy to have secured his services: “I’m delighted to bring in Connor Ripley. He’s a top-class ‘keeper and was exceptional during his loan spell with Oldham. He has a big future in the game and has come in to improve our squad”.
Connor spoke to us after signing and expressed his excitement at joining the Shakers “I've come here, the Gaffer has shown me about and I am really looking forward to it."
